After years of neglecting grades, and now being older, I feel it has bit me in the ass in one sense, but school wasn't for me. I was more interested in being hands on, and this may be the same instance for your son. It can be a fulfilling experience for him and give him a "path" that will make school feel less..., schoolish.
At the same point in time, it may have just been his surroundings as you've said he's gotten better in everything since being in NC with you. Has he been involved in any kind of tutoring for math?

no other interests that I know of besides Basketball. When he first moved down here it was 24/7 Boston Celtics . I had to crush his dreams of becoming a pro BB player and focus on his school work. He used to be technical when he was learning how to build explosives from youtube but nothing like working on cars or something he could actually use in the real world He just got his permit this summer but he has shown no interests in cars. Football season is coming to an end so i'll be looking into getting a tutor for his math.
