We did the same thing with clods of dirt. We'd heave them over the trees lining the front yard and run like hell into the garage to watch our handiwork. Only busted once by a dude in a pick-up truck who almost pitched it into the swale on the opposite side of the street. He was laughing too much to yell at us that badly because he originally thought it was raining dirt.
