My own opinion is that if I'm privileged enough to drive an M, I enjoy it without caring too much about M wannabes. This possessive mentality is to me a little pointless. What does it achieve? In fact be happy people are so ready to slap on the M badge, it really reflects the prestige the emblem carries.

While you look at the comments here as rage oriented, it really is a level of disbelief, humor and maybe even awe.
When someone takes an item and adjusts the look of said item to be something it is not, it boggles my mind. To take a non-///M car and to portray it as an actual ///M is for the most part silly to me and rather entertaining.
We all are amazed when we note someone is wearing a toupee, a fake Rolex, various body augmentations, fake anything, etc. This amazement is based on the level of vanity, low self esteem, etc. it takes to push ones self to portray things that are not. And as one has noted already, find it rather laughable.
We as ardent fans of BMW ///M are just as amazed to see people push the levels of good taste as they augment their cars into something they clearly are not.
Now maybe you are right and there are far better things for us to focus on. Should we laugh at someone's low self esteem, balding head, fiscal lot in life, improved body image gone awry, of course not. Be happy in our own world, right? I get that. Should we share in our common amusement of people trying to fool others into thinking they have an Ultimate Driving ///Machine???
You bet your ass we should!!
