I love a manual as much as the next guy. My E39 ///M5 was manual. In fact up until I turned 40, nearly every one of my cars were manual.
I love to heel/toe and blip the throttle.
It's not that I am getting old, its just PDK is so dam good. It is intuitive. Don't confuse PDK with our M4/M3 clunky DCT.
With PDK you can be in full auto mode, then manually go down a gear and 10 seconds later, you are back to auto mode. Its a great feature missing from our cars. You don't have to take it out of auto mode if you feel its labouring. Our cars go to high in the gears way to fast. (But I digress).
I have had my money down on one of these for awhile, and I got a call to submit my specs. So it looks like I will get an allocation. It doesn't seem to be that big of a deal down here.
So the point i wanted to make is, once again, whilst many people complained there was no manual option, Uptake on the manuals has been incredibly slow.
The PDK sales far out weigh the manual sales. Remember I love manual as much as the next guy. But I want this as my daily. Traffic is what spoils manual.
I love manual, but when it came time to order, I ordered PDK. I think the majority of people who actually put their money down, will be the same.
I think all of the journo's have it wrong. They all say that PDK is the ultimate for the Track. (Yes i know faster times). But I am the opposite. I want PDK for the street, because frequently its just business as usual and you are commuting. I commute more than I track.
Whereas for the few times a year I am at the track, That is when I would prefer a manual. That's where I want to show off skill. Each to their own I guess.
