I completely agree - the problem is that they've been using that "racetrack" jargon for some time, at least since the E92 M3 days (I remember it from the website, because I built that car about 100 times online.

The competition has really heated up on that front...many other options (and cheaper to boot) for pure racetrack inspired uses. It's becoming harder and harder for M to produce that car with dual purposes...the duality of the M has been the best argument for it in the past...which is why I am sure they think they have to slice it up into 3-4 variants now.
