Before the creation of the World Cups, the FIFA Congress agreed to organize the Olympic Football Tournaments. These tournaments were held at the Olympic Games in Paris and Amsterdam. Uruguay was crowned Olympic Champion, beating Switzerland (1924) and Argentina (1928) in the final.
Such was the success of this tournament that FIFA decided to create its own World Cup competition. The president of the time, Jules Rimet, led the proposal (the Cup would later bear his name).
FIFA recognized the 1924 and 1928 Games as World Cups, which is why los Charrúas did not hesitate to proudly wear the blue and blue with their four stars.
