phone is set to allow contacts allow read messages but car won't do it

I had a similar issue with my Alpina. Long story short, the dealer couldn't do anything so I called the genius. Do you guys have access to the "genius" DownUnder? So after about 20 minutes of looking stuff up, suggesting (already did it) deleting and re-pairing the phone, suggesting that I go to the dealer (they told me to call you, I said) the girl says, I swear:
"Have you thought about buying a new phone?"
I laughed and said no, I'm not spending $1000 because your stupid car stopped working properly.
After a few more minutes she has me confirm the car VIN again and says, "oh, it's a 2018. We don't support anything more than 3 years old." Buh bye.
I did (for other reasons) eventually get a new phone and it didn't work either.
