I just think that the evolution of their cars from the start of the season to the level that VER likes leaves the other drivers struggling to be able to handle the car at the limit. None of Max’s teammates have been able to keep up once this point is reached. I think how easy VER makes it look gives a false impression that the car is easy to drive fast. What is happening with PER shows us that it is very much the opposite. Last year after a decent start VER blew him away once the car was set up to his liking. Same thing this year except the car is even more on the edge now to keep its potential advantage over other teams. Now whereas PER just couldn’t match pace last year - this year it’s even harder to drive 10/10ths and mistakes are being made (tough conditions aren’t helping either). I do not think RBR believes RIC is the answer either - he hasn’t been competitive for a few years. But I think they have gotten very tired of PER’s act and you can’t piss off VER like he apparently did somewhere along the way. If you going to have a number 2 keep botching things then it might as well be someone that you like and has a huge following.
