Golf Clubs?
I've just started to play some golf and want/need to get a set of my own clubs. I'm looking for something I can buy that's a decent complete set that I can learn with, but that is also good enough to keep for at least a couple years. I don't have a particular price in mind, but I'm not interested in being gouged for the "latest and greatest" of the golf name brands. Also, I need clubs with the 1.5 additional inches.
Between store shopping and online research I've come across a few possibilities:
1. Learnaboutgolf.com suggests a set of clone clubs from pinemeadowgolf.com called Command (totals 12 clubs). Pinemeadow has a couple other sets of clone clubs that I was looking at too and seems to get a lot of good reviews across the board. I'd be spending probably in the ballpark of $425-450 without a bag. Apparently no price increase for longer clubs.
2. Dicks Sporting Goods has a Maxfli "Black Max" complete set (18 clubs) for $399 including a bag. Extending the clubs will cost me about $100. Hard to find reviews, but they seem to be generally positive. Brand used to be owned by Taylor Made, but sold to Dicks, fwiw.
3. Adams Tight Lies complete set (18 clubs) for as low as $359.99 online. Would have to go somewhere to get the extra length. Hard to find reviews also, but the ones I've found are all positive, some borderline fanatical. I seem to recall that this is also a lesser name of a big brand. In the negative column, the bag that comes with this set would be embarassing to carry around because it says "Tight Lies" in huge letters on the side. I don't even know what it means, but I already feel awkward.
Anyone know anything about these clubs? Anyone have suggestions or other options that I should consider? Will any of this thought even matter considering the class of clubs I'm looking at?
Thanks in advance.
