I should be there to see the race. I have a cousin who lives in LeMans. Last time I was there was in ’76.

The race was a treat because the 4 year tour of duty was about to end and a return to “the world” back stateside.
The only thing I really remember ’76…. was the John Greenwood Corvette. It had a patriotic paint job and it made a roar like no other on the track. Unfortunately the exhaust disintegrated from the heat from reported close source(s). There was a damn good heat wave that Summer. Article states “damaged fuel cell”……that is not what was told on the street back then.
It was June 12, 1976. 55 engines were roaring on the Circuit de la Sarthe waiting for the rolling start. There were Porsches and there were Lolas. The Alpine A442 was enjoying pole position privileges, while a pack of widebody BMWs were flexing their inline-six engines.
