Of course Max' drive was excellent, but it was the complete packeage. The RB20 was slower. But Max drove better, the team/pitcrew was better, the strategy was better.
McLaren not realizing that getting Max is getting the real prize, and Lando having to tell that to them over the radio, says to me that it's the McLaren team that still doesn't have the right mindset to win.
If they get that sorted out, so improving their general mindset and performance to what a winning team has (strategy wise, pitstop wise etc), then they'll become a real problem for RB.
Because the McLaren car for sure is faster on a lot of tracks, maybe all of them.

So that last thing is quite an achievement from McLaren. Since last year somewhere mid season (forgot the exact date), that they launched their new car (they said last year at the beginning of the season that they'd start basically with their old car because their new concept still wasn't ready), they've shown a continuous progress path. Every update they came with had a small but steady improvement.

With Mercedes....It's unbelievable that they gained so much improvement with just 1 or 2 new parts (especially their front wing). Too good to be true?
Remember, every part is legal as long as you can get away with it

Too bad that ferrari seems to have lost their path of steady progression.
Yes, Ferrari is going backwards...and Ham will find himself battling for P5-P8 next year because he is no better than Sai who is having a decent year and is pretty damn quick at times.

I do think Mclaren will hit a wall like Ferrari and even take some steps back. At the same time, we know RB can improve their car quite a bit and just being able to ride the curbs better probably gives a tenth or two, and hopefully this big upgrade package solidifies another 2-3 tenths or more for them. I still believe there is a higher ceiling for the RB20 than what everyone else has. Plus RB do need to get some flexi wings back and might as well see if they can implement a flexi floor so they can ride even lower.
