I think that the 911 has remained very similar in design is a good thing though, it stays true to form, and doesn't try to break from tradition, and the market rewards it for that consistency.

I'm not sure who "they" is, but for me as a car enthusiast, I don't get mixed up about brands.
There are simply just too many versions of the 911 currently and over the past few decades. The current count on Porsche's website is 16 variations of the "911". It's a "911" but the chassis designation is like 992, or 996, or 996.1, 996.2, 996.295 (is that a 996.3 ?)

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
