The key point is the test was on snow. As in the road surface is packed snow. When one needs additional contact area airing down is the norm. However, one also needs to drive slower. As such, airing down has it place.

If one is driving in normal winter conditions which is a mix of wet, dry, slop, snow, ice airing down will not be beneficial.
