What a cool photo. I never raced as a kid but my dad used to take me to Lions Drag Strip and Ascot Park (dirt track) in the Los Angeles area.
I just had to look up Santa Maria racetrack and learn it's history. While doing so, I found this photo. It appears to be be the panorama of your photo. You may already have this full photo but I thought I'd share it in case you don't have it.
