For racing slicks that's no uncommon. I use to have a tire business and we would do trackside tire service at Sebring and Homestead. There were plenty of people dropping at least $4k+ per event just on tires. Occasionally we would also do tire support for some "teams" who would rent the whole track to do testing. They would literally bring like an entire Homestead garage bay worth of tires just for the day.
Then you have the guys looking to take all the tires these other guys just took off to put on their cars.
