You are more correct than you think
: Bmw 2016 1 series (it's the second generation F20,F21 models) is "one of it's kind" (relatively compact hatchback, C class) RWD (as well as the first generation E81,E87 not available in the USA either)!
When BMW found out many(/most?) of it's owners didn't know/value that, they put the model down the FWD gutter.
