I learned it the hard way just today — I used a “matching paint” from Amazon (known brand) and it didn’t match at all. I finally drove to my auto body supply shop and apparently over the years, there are 13 (!!!!) variants of this color in the system. He used my VIN to mix the correct color variant and the paint matches much much better. Lesson learn — the paint code by itself is not enough to get good paint match. Don’t be lazy, go to a good store and get the right paint.
