Nicholas Cage is actually supposed to portray the life of one of the real-life firefighters who went through the whole ordeal.
I think the movie is a good thing, despite all the cinematics and exaggerated drama. It's beneficial for people past our time, such as our kids and our grandkids who most likely will not have a single clue what 9/11 will be. Obviously, all of the real-life footage of 9/11 are quite short and to put it bluntly - no where as dramatic/emotional as how Hollywood can make it to be.
