Arcane 3 ton Aluminum jack okay for X5?
I have never owned a floor jack hence seeking opinion on one. Is Arcane 3 ton floor jack sufficient for occasional in-garage lifting of X5 for tire rotation? It’s available at Costco and weighs 58lbs so I am interested https://www.costco.com/arcan-3-ton-p...100222458.html
Thanks! |

Definitely get the Daytona 3 ton low profile long reach. Yes it's 100 lb. You can lift it.

I dunno, I've never weighed mine. I wouldn't throw it in the back for a track day, but for around the shop it's AWESOME. I can tell you from lifting it in and out of the back of the expedition, it isn't light. But it's also not like insanely heavy.

I have used my neighbors long reach Daytona (steel) with the higher capacity. That sucker is not exactly portable. The steel Daytonas are a good deal, but heavy. Lift capacity is limited with aluminum jacks. There is a Daytona 2-ton aluminum jack on the harbor Freight website at this time. You might consider a Daytona for home use, and a lighter jack for portability. I've seem some that come in carrying cases.

I’ve had the Aluminum ARCAN 3-ton for more than 7 years. It’s built solid and is top-notch mechanically. It’s got great wheels, a low profile, and the extended grab bars are positioned nicely.
If you actually move/transport your jack a lot, vs just roll it, it’s super. A 40+ lb + difference is a lot slinging a jack. And it fits under my front splitter too… |

Yes, my bad. I was thinking 3000 lbs. I usually find my stupid mistakes pretty fast on a reread. Brain fog.

I could not find an aluminum jack that was not made in China. I would buy one if made in another country. I am tired of buying crap made in China so I avoid it. Any other country is fine.
I bought and 2 Ton AC Hydraulic jack made in Denmark. All steel. More than enough for most vehicles as one is only lifting part of the total weight. https://www.achydraulic.com/products...dk20q-3601500/ I bought the rubber pad and the extension for other high profile vehicles. Tire rotations are a breeze. |

This is particularly relevant when jacking from frame hard points, due to suspension travel.

The Daytona jack I mentioned gets the e53 X5 up in the air plenty high. I got the transmission on the small trans jack out from underneath without having to do anything special, just lift it and use the jack stands on a high setting.
With the floaty stock suspension, it will still get the rear tire in the air when lifting from the front side point. So it's easy to swap tires on each side. I have another older slightly smaller grey 2.5 ton one that's pretty close but it can't really do anything compared to it. I want to trade that for the big one. My garage isn't big enough to lift the rear diff straight back from 6:00 as you normally would, the door is in the way and it's been too cold to open it. But I figured out you can lift on the diagonal, put the jack over near where the wheel / jack stand will be. The rear is kind of easier to do this way, easier to see. Are you asking if you can lift the entire X5 from one central point, all four wheels? Lol. Think about center of gravity and balance on an x and y-axis. I don't think any car and floor jack has ever done that, and if anyone ever tried, something bad or really bad happened. |
