dont smoke weed. drink a lot of water and take B vitamins before test. then cross your fingers. dont exercise or do anything that burns fat for 48h prior to the test. you could try a high fat diet for 48h prior to test. THC is in lipid tissue. if you are a daily user or using edibles then 1-2 weeks is likely not enough time to be negative. typically these tests are threshold tests, so a little in your system and you might squeak by despite not being totally clean. if employers denied anyone who smokes a little weed then they'd shrink their applicant pool by 40%. what kind of work do you do?

Companies still test for weed? Unless it is for a hazardous job where people could get hurt (driving a dump truck?) so it is specifically prohibited, testing seems like a waste of money since it is legal for medicinal purposes in so many states now, not to mention the states where is it legal for recreational use.
As stated above, if you are a daily user, there is probably nothing you can do to pass. If you live in a state where it is legal for medicinal use, get an Rx to explain the failed test.

Federal jobs or jobs supporting the federal government probably still test for weed. There are a lot of those jobs.

Reminds me of one of my jobs. It was a small company and there was no HR or anything like that when I first started. Finally they hired some HR people and they sent an email stating they will be starting to do drug testing.... I'm guessing they must have gotten a million calls and emails because shortly after they sent another email stating it will only be for NEW hires. They would have had to fire probably 80% of the employees!
![]() Not sure if they ever did it or not for new hires. |

Every “real” job I’ve ever had has said there would be a drug test as part of hiring. It wasn’t until my most recent hiring that I actually did get drug tested (and in my opinion the one I would say the most unnecessary industry to be drug tested of the bunch). What a pain in the tail. Had to drive an hour away to get one that was covered. Waited almost two hours (and really had to pee but couldn’t because it was needed for the test) in a waiting room full of sick people. Ended up starting my job sick as a result.
I’m convinced it’s just a CYA tactic for workers comp insurance. |

Thanks to everyone who replied except for those people who say just don’t do drugs because y’all are fucking autists.
It sounds like there are only two options, maybe three. One is the flush style drinks. The other is fake pee. I’m an extraordinarily heavy user for years so it seems unlikely dilution through the drinks will work since you could probably smoke my pee and get high. I bought the detox drinks though and will be trying it out this week with a home drug testing kit. The fake pee option actually worries me because that seems more fraudulent and I’m not necessarily that interested however it may become the only solution. Also, if I’m observed it immediately fails. A possible third solution is to address the issue with HR because I am in a quasi-legal state. There is a possibility that they may not even check (or care about) for THC to begin with or maybe dismiss it because it is likely so prevalent. I just have a serious problem with telling on myself, especially to the jackals in HR. Decisions decisions. Last edited by dumptruck; 07-13-2025 at 10:37 AM.. |

Just telling you how my last drug test went which was years ago. I don't see how you'll be able to sneak fake or someone else's pee into the test if they send you to a specific place to get it done. The process is you show up and prove who you are. They escort you to one of the bathrooms. They have you empty your pockets and make sure you don't have anything that you're carrying into the bathroom. They then wipe the toilet seat and such. I also seem to recall some sort of dye they pour into the bowl of the toilet. You're told to pee in the cup up to a certain mark and then the rest into the toilet. You're told clearly that you're not to flush the toilet when you're done. The tech doing the test will visually examine the bowel and then flush.
The cup you provide a sample in is then taken into an area where there is this machine which for a lack of a better description looks like a Keurig. The container is put into this machine and immediately analyzed. The results are then sent into a portal where your employer will be able to access the results. I don't know about whether it's a good idea to approach HR before doing the test. If this job is valuable to you, you may want to consult a labor attorney. ETA: I also seem to recall the sample you provide is temperature tested too. Last edited by zx10guy; 07-13-2025 at 02:13 PM.. |
