My town implemented curb bumps outs downtown, I have to admit they work pretty well in slowing traffic and making it more pedestrian friendly. The appear at almost every crosswalk. Although I've seen at least one op-ed about someone not realizing it was there in the dark and curbing their wheels and getting a flat.

According to the town:

Curb bump-outs help to:
-- Narrow the roadway, creating a more inviting space for pedestrians.
-- Slow down traffic, reducing the risk of collisions.
-- Improve pedestrian visibility and safety by creating a buffer between pedestrians and vehicles.
-- Prevent vehicles from parking too close to crosswalks or curb ramps

I, for one, am interested in trying out this chicane that the government has gifted us. Let them cook.

This. I'm not far from Montco so time to take the Miata over there.

I suppose it's all in the operator

Works well there, but I guess we're the ones creating snake roads...

Yup. There's a 4 lane road near me that's somewhat of a minor N-S arterial in my city and they decided to put in left turn lanes at intersections by squeezing down the width of the pairs of lanes in each direction. A lot of drivers, including me, just go straight and cut down the edge of the turn lane if there's nobody in it, especially if there's somebody in the outside lane as no need to crowd them.

I also enjoy the extra tight radius traffic circles. Quite a lot.
