Ive never done it but i wouldn't...

Ive had a job like that, but thankfully I had another one to go to. Soon as I got hired, I quit the one I hated.

did you regret it? i mean its def going to hurt financially. im gonna have to be a cheap ass for the next month or two, until i find a new job and if it comes down to it, i will take whatever job just to get by until i do find something. theyre threatening to fire me as it is. id rather just quit before i let that happen which is probably what they want anyway

yes...regret was def involved....I said the same thing you just did...about taking whatever job I could get....and I did that...I was unemployed for about 3-4 weeks, then took a job with more than a 50% annual pay cut from my previous 4 years....worked at that for about a month and a half before I finally got 3 job offers all within 2 days of each other....and I was never more grateful to be back in the position I left to begin with....keep your head up...and remember, if you're not self-employed, most all jobs suck.

oh yeah, and I'm sure you know this, but use all your vacation and sick time before you quit....and on those days off, look for a new job.

well i dont think its possible for me to take such a huge paycut unless i have to take some "whatever" job like a waitress or receptionist or something... i doubt id get hired because clearly id be overqualified.... right now im making sure i have enough money put aside to live off of if it turns into the worst case scenario but i definitely cannot stay at this company...


working for someone sucks but i shouldnt have to get abused everyday i go to work... i plan on opening my own practice in a couple of years anwyay...

only downside is quitting= no unemployment vs fired= unemployment but may hurt my new job opportunities

dood, they wrote me up for taking a sick day.... according to them, under no circumstance, if i am sick during busy season should i take a day off... i should come in and if they see im not well, they will send me home...

Get fired, and at your next job say you were complaining of sexual harassment and because the person that was sexual harassing you was the sons owner or your boss, they fired you before you had the chance to make a strong suet. Say you were going to file a suet, but your lawyer said you did not have enough evidence because it was your word v.s. his and when you decided to do something it was too late.

If you get creative you can make the whole "fired" thing go away.

Being a girl makes it a lot easier to pull.

With the way the economy is, you don't want to quit without lining up another job.

To be successful in the corporate world, the following matters:

1. Who do you know (networking - got to be proactive at meeting people)
2. How well you work (performance - got to have the skills and work hard)
3. How do you do your work (ethics - do it the right way or not at all)

I have two requirements for any new position I'm applying for:

a. It must be a learning opportunity - it has to make me grow
b. It must be fun - I have to like what I do

Instead of wanting to fire you, they'll be fighting to keep you!

I did it about the time I was your age - I had a job with great pay, but I absolutely loathed it; one day I came in, gave them my resignation, and left. The financial impact was huge, and it was years before I completely recovered because my next job took a couple months to find and didn't pay as well, so I had to use my savings to supplement it my pay until I could move to a cheaper apartment and lower my standard of living without just bailing on my obligations and ruining my credit.

I don't regret leaving the job, but I do wish I'd held off until I found a new one. Most advisors say the same - it's easier to find a new job while you're still employed, and part of the industry network. I think you'll find that simply deciding to leave will enable you to tough it out until you find another position - knowing it's almost over is empowering. You just think "Whatever, I'm almost out of here."

I'm surprised you're bailing now - aren't you a tax consultant? Isn't the busy season should be about over for you?

Yeah, Im a tax consultant and April 15th was a tuesday, i took that wed off and that thursday, i was told in writing that my job is basically on the line... they didnt like that i only worked 60 something hours a week, blah blah.... it comes down to- i was an experiment.... they dont normally hire people with under 5 solid years but they figured theyd try it out anyway, they did and i caused them to have to actually do work instead of them having someone completely self sufficient so theyre micromanaging me to death....

in NY, accountants are highly in demand, its just a matter of time...

If you quit, then they won't pay you severance pay, if that's your company policy. Also, at least in CA, if you quit, you may not be entitled to get Unemployment pay from the state.

theres no such thing as severance pay.... unless you get fired, only then can you collect and even then, the employer can deny that....

not all accountants are in tax....there are alot of possibilities and the money can be great.... but unfortunately, i work for complete $%^&*(
