Got a heavy dose of what our society really is, full on year of political hypocrisy, and we learned "we are not in this together"

Pollution and traffic is way down. I spent more time outside and hiking. Wife and I had an amazing year, and we went from 3-4 family dinners a week, to 6+.

Horrible the toll its taken on some, but outside the deaths (big if I know) I think the year wasn't so bad, selfishly speaking. (which I do for only this context)

Lets hope the world turns the corner, and we get back to how much golf the president is playing

HAPPY NEW YEARS ALL !!

I just went to pick up black oil sunflower seeds and peanut pickouts at the local pet food place. Since the pandemic, I've been calling in the order and the owner sets the stuff out on the loading dock behind the store. I drive over, back up to the dock, and load up. Way easier than it used to be when I had to carry those 50lb bags down the front steps of the building and out to my car. When the pandemic is over, I may still have him drop the stuff on the loading dock.

All that is a way of saying there are some changes forced on us by 2020 that may carry forward. I would have considered not retiring this coming April if they'd let me WFH, which I can do just as easily and efficiently as working from my office. Sometimes it takes a hard jolt like 2020 to open our eyes to better ways of doings some things.

That said, I'm soooo glad 2020 is about over. I want to go back to doing my own shopping and eating out and traveling and getting together with friends for a few pints.

I have hope for this year. 2020 was one of the worst of my life. Yes, some fantastic things happened, but... Watching my son's reaction to learning his school would be virtual this fall until further notice (they're POTENTIALLY going back Jan 19th, which I doubt) and hearing my 9 year old say "God DAMMIT" as tearfully as he did is one of the most devastating things I've dealt with as a parent. Then hearing "I hope I have COVID too so I can see my mom again" kicked my ass too. Can we just not ever again? That would be great. Thanks. So here's to 2021.

2019 and 2020 were full of death and loss in my family and I'm exhausted trying to cope with it all. 2019 was the worst year of my life, and 2020 could have been worse, but the fact that we have survived so far has left me eternally grateful and hopeful that we can keep pushing through all this chaos and darkness and into a brighter future. What a heavy price we have paid though.
