Hi All,

Having to take my 2023 x45e in to the dealer to have him fix an issue with the parking assist and also repair the damage to the bumper from an apparent hit & run. the bumper damage is relatively minor, but did leave a gash.

Thus far, I've been hand washing the car myself since I took delivery of it brand new from the dealership in September.

I don't know how or to what extent they washed it before my picking it up. I know a lot of people on here instruct the dealer not to wash the car after bringing it in for service visits.

My question is whether this would be wise to do in my case? It's been rainy here in New England lately, and so I did do a wash earlier in the week such that the car is pretty clean, but it'll inevitably pick up some dust/dirt on the way to the dealer. Just thinking of the tradeoff of avoiding damage to paint from washing at the dealer vs. being able to evaluate the quality of the bumper repair (color matching etc) if the car isn't clean upon pickup.

Any thoughts appreciated. Obviously wish I didn't have to ask about such a situation with such a new car.

Happy New Year to all!

I always tell my SA no wash and I leave a note taped to the mirror or dash not to wash (one time they washed it even after I told them not to)

if it were any other service issue than bodywork, NO WASH would be warranted, but a proper repair assessment is best done when the surface is clean. you may have to bite the bullet this instance

I would never allow a dealer to wash my X5. If a dealer washes the car you will be headed to a detail shop for paint correction.
