i never realized she was the same age as her Sally Kellerman. Great film, and a great series. It made Monday nights special for years.

I can remember tuning in with parents to watch weekly. It's what we did back then no binge watching a season in one day.

I always like the TV series better than the movie.

Ah, that's shame. She was perfect for that role. RIP

The show had its moments, but Alda's preachiness got old fast. No big loss when it was finally cancelled.

One of my favorite scenes:

Loretta Swit was a great actress.

she was great in one of the all time great shows. people under 45-50 have no idea how popular and important that show was. the last episode was an event, i was in 8th grade when it ended and can remember kids at school talking about it. frank burns, hawkeye, potter etc - what a great bit of acting history! really no one that was in that show had much of a career afterwards but it was because they were so strongly identified as MASH characters.

^ Don't forget Radar O'Reilly, known for his keen sense of impending events, particularly helicopters, giving him the nickname "Radar."

The show was great until Trapper and Henry left. That's when the show got overly political, preachy and lost its charm.

Unbeknownst to us at the time, but looking back, my best friend and I ran our division (OI) in the Navy just like M*A*S*H. We weren't "officers," just a couple of PO2s. We got away with stuff that would put most others in the brig! That's where I learned that as long as you were good at your job, you could get away with almost anything.

Sad to hear this, I'm a fan of that series for its easy humour.

Read the news of her death earlier this AM.

Part of -- an important part of -- a good cast in a good show.

But I agree with OtoPA. Alda's preachiness got old quick. I didn't even stick around for the series final show.

At any rate, RIP Loretta Swit.
