I installed replacement EDC rear shocks on my '95 750iL, but my mechanic and I are stumped as to why the shock is pressurized fully by the hydraulic system and lifts the car all the way up (see pic). I feel some compression damping, but because there's no down travel, it's very bouncy.
I don't suspect anything's wrong with my EDC module, because the front shocks (originals) still work perfectly and the switches modes. Besides, it seems like the EDC on the 95's is "dumb".

Is there something that has to be done to the shock before installation or with the hydraulic lines to get the shock to not do this?

Usually there is adjustment through a high level scan tool, but 95 is OBD1 and has less access. I have almost no experience with scanning OBD1 though I have tools that have OBD1 adapters so I assume there is some access.

Usually there is a regulating valve that is connected to the sway bar or control arm, the connecting arm can fall off or disconnect.

Thanks. Indeed, it was the SLS lever arm, which was somehow pushing in the wrong direction. I got some help from someone on Reddit.

Unfortunately now I need to replace the accumulators to solve the bouncy ride.

I'm really glad to hear you sorted out the SLS lever problem! About the accumulators—are you thinking of going with OEM parts or aftermarket ones?

I'm going with the Corteco 80001410, substitute for OEM part no 37211090631. It seems like others have had success with that brand, and it's 1/3 the cost.
