My BMW account is set up with my legal name, but I go by a different name. Is there a way to change the name displayed in the Welcome screen on iDrive 7?

You can change it in the "BMW Guide" app on your phone(not the my BMW App).

I would like to change my name as well but not familiar with the BMW Guide would you be able to provide a link or something to help me find it...thank you.

Download the “My BMW” app from the App Store. Use your VIN to set up your car. It isn’t that hard to use.

It is complicated to do this, and is tricky if you have a loan or lease out with BMW Financial. I was able to do it by calling the BMW Genius Line. They had to do something on their end. Finally got it sorted. I can’t remember the details from 2020.
