Delivery rant

We've all been there. You're waiting on Fedex or UPS or USMail and your package ends up in Purgatory. My package supposedly arrived in Champaign last night. That's our "local" Fedex hub. It originally said it would be delivered by the end of today. Just now I got a notice that I'd get a delivery date "once the package starts moving." WTF does that mean? Looks like it's done plenty of moving already.

Fedex is usually best. Ive had several items lately where USPS shipped it literally coast to coast and back again taking several weeks for delivery. I live in Arkansas and bought an expensive ring that was in Tucson, AZ. they shipped it to Phoenix, then Los Angeles, then somewhere in Illinois, then San Francisco then Seattle then to me. took 20 days.

Usually for anything coming from another country, FedEx is great at getting it to the US, but then they usually fall short for deliveries to our house.

We get notifications saying it’s “out for delivery” but it never comes until the next day.

We joke that their motto is “FedEx, we’ll come when we want”

Hopefully your package gets to you soon

It is vacation season, and many of our packages like to tour.

Funny thing is that I'm looking at a UPS package trace right now for something I'm expecting. It appears that the package missed its connecting truck by 7 minutes on Monday evening, so it had to sit in a UPS regional sorting center for another 24 hours just because a truck driver apparently stopped to take a dump en route.....

Supposedly it's out for delivery today. We'll see.

And in an unexpected but great way, FedEx delivered our wallpaper from Ireland today, one day EARLY. They must have known that we were talking about them

Proves though that they come whenever they want

I use to get stressed out when a package showed to be delivered when no one was home for a few days. Truth is the delivery dates were just a wild ass guess to start with.

In the peak of the pandemic, we would get notice after notice that our package delivery was delayed because the driver couldn’t get beyond the gate. Except there was no gate.

Me on the phone to FedEx: I received a notice that my package couldn’t be delivered because the driver couldn’t get passed a gate, but we have no gate.

Operator: Well let me look at the delivery notes here sir…..looks like the driver couldn’t get passed your gate…..did you have a key code that you could share with us for future deliveries?

Went on like this for months.

We would get that as well, but we did have a gate. However, nearly every time I could see the carrier driving around in the gated neighborhood, so...

Also during the pandemic, we would seemingly always get notification of the package being delivered despite it not. It 9/10 times would be actually delivered the following day. I never understood it. I assume there is some type of incentive tied to on-time deliveries, so they would just mark it as delivered to meet that time and then actually deliver it whenever was convenient...

I had to replace our kitchen sink after someone tossed in a portafilter in it w/ a little too much zeal, resulting in a puncture of one of the basins. Given the granite countertop we have and my desire not to have to cut or replace it, I had to find a sink of the right dimensions and reveal.

I finally found a place and it shipped pretty quickly. Delivery was over the holidays, when I had off of work, so I'd have plenty of time to screw up the install and fix it. Ultimately, it was delivered a week and a half late but I still got the job done.

The kicker was that, from the website, it appeared the sink would ship from the East coast. Turns out, it shipped from about 50min from where I live (not the East coast) and I could've just driven to pick it up. However, due to the chain of couriers, I couldn't get ahold of anyone to have them hold the item so I could get it. Icing on the cake was that it was FedEx Freight that was the end courier. When the guy showed up, he said he had a delivery of screws for me (as shown in the BOL). Seemed odd but the item dimensions were right for the sink I ordered. He was just as confused as I was but nice enough to stick around for me to verify the pallet indeed had a boxed up sink, not screws, before accepting the delivery.

Shipping.....it sometimes keeps life unnecessarily spicey.

DHL > UPS > FEDEX > USPS

From my experience. Fedex has been dropping the ball a lot as of late. Last month my package was late 3 days. Each day the app stated a different driver on there way and when it wasn't delivered, I receive an email that my package is still on its way.

My last company made the swap from UPS to FedEx a few years ago. Holy schnikies was that a bad move. We shipped thousands - scratch that, tens of thousands of packages a day. Inclusive of the deal, they also managed the logistics including the warehousing, packaging, etc. EVERYTHING was late. The wrong items would be in the box. Packing slip was correct for a 300 lb package, but slapped on a 10 inch box weighing ounces. Absolute nightmare.

Never had those issues with UPS...
