G80 M3
So is it the car or the driver that make this particular model go spiralling out of control in extremis and it may be the basic design of the car.

umm... yea nothing to do with the car... the G80 is the most stable and well put together M3 ever... to the point where its boring... if the broccoli heads with 0 experience were put into the F80 gen in something like an M2 comp... everyone would be salvage title

Can’t help idiot drivers and young kids with no experience trying to show off. Put them in a 500+ hp car and bad things are bound to happen when you have no self control and turn off your traction settings.
These cars are extremely stable. Anyone that thinks otherwise, I would suggest signing up for //M drivers school at the Performance Center. Go with an instructor in a hot lap around the track and then tell me you still think they are unstable. More than I've ever seen in the past - this current gen M3 is a magnet for the younger crowd.... young and dumb crowd. The car is supremely capable and the most stable and best handling M3 ever made. But for whatever reason it's caught the attention of the young and dumb crowd - you turn traction control off in any 500hp RWD biased car and it's just asking for trouble.

i had a M340i and nearly crashed it a few times with traction control fully on but only in the wet. this is because the traction control allows the rear end so slide for some reason. not my m550i. nothing i can do that will slide the rear end with TC or Traction+ engaged.

Xdrive version is extremely fast, it is a far more capable car than average drivers can handle in anger. Personally, I think we've reached a point where cars are too fast for most drivers.

Reminds me of myself back in the day when I trashed my E90 M3. I've gotten a bit better now, though, over a period of time and growing in maturity.

E90 M3 is a very predictable car with a very gradual power curve. Had one for 10 years, modded of course. Never felt like I could not control it. Turbo power is very different. The sometimes massive and sudden onset of torque definitely can surprise you.
I have an E36 M3 with built motor and turbo making over 700 rwhp and it can be a handful. I started with a few centrifugal superchargers, which deliver power like a naturally aspirated engine and then a few turbochargers, so I got used to handling the power over the years. And a few years ago, I installed a Racelogic traction control, which helps compared to no traction control and big power RWD. I prefer AWD for big power since it puts more of the power down more of the time (road and weather conditions affect traction). I also appreciate modern traction control systems. They are way less intrusive than early versions and usually you can adjust them if you want a little more slippage. Sure, sometimes it is fun to turn off traction control or AWD and play, but I do so in safe areas and still accept the risk that I might end up off the road or crashing into something. If I had my E36 M3 turbo or my M5 when I was 20 or 25, I probably would have wrecked the car and maybe hurt myself or others. |
