need summer/beach house recommendations in new england area
hi,
i'm looking into planning a summer/beach house trip for some friends in the summer in the new england area. i was wondering if anyone had any recommendations based on personal experience. some of the criteria i'm planning for: 1. a cabin/house on (or really near) a beach, preferably on a lake/pond since the water is usually warmer than the ocean. it needs to be less than 4 hrs drive away from boston, ma. 2. needs to accommodate ~25-30 of my friends. 3. looking at booking it for the weekend (fri and sat night) sometime in july or august and hoping to keep costs at around $3k or less (although i could probably go up to $4k if need be). 4. interested in some outdoor activities e.g. jetski, canoe/kayak, fishing, swimming, etc so it'll be great if some of these are available nearby. 5. basically, just looking for an excuse to get a bunch of my friends together to relax. probably do some outdoorsy activities in the afternoon and top the night off by drinking ourselves to oblivion. any recommendations? i am pretty open to any suggestions. i'd really like to hear some feedback based on your personal experiences. thanks in advance! i'm sure there are a few members in new england area who could share some ideas. *yes, i know i should post this in the regional subforums but the traffic there isn't so high. ~bt |

more like $40k.
OP, Vinyard it too far with ferry. Hamptons, Montauk, or anything in LI is too far for you to get out to. I would look for something in Cape Cod as its probably cheaper and closer to you.

hamptons is definitely out of my price range. i dont need anything super luxurious. in fact, for the past 5 years, my friends and i have been doing camping trips for our summer trip. our camping trips have been on saco river (i'm sure some of the members from new england know about saco) and we slept in tents along the side of the river where there is no running water for showers or toilets but we decided to do something a little different this year so that the gf's could join us. so even renting a log cabin with zero amenities would be a huge improvement for us.
the other new york locations are still too far for us. i'd prefer something about 3 hrs drive away but would consider 4 hrs if it was much better. the vineyard is probably not possible since i will have friends driving in and out at all different times of the day including around midnight, so the ferry won't work for us. i have considered lake winnipesaukee already and right now its probably at the top of my list. any of you have any first hand experience with lake winnipesaukee? can any of you give any recommendations for a specific rental unit? |

also, i have already booked a couple trips to the cape before and would probably do it again. just wanted to try something different.
again, i prefer lake/pond to the ocean since its usually warmer and not as salty. |

Not a problem. Just a suggestion most will negotiate on their prices. Send an email to a bunch of them. Have them send you a total price. Tell them you are looking for a deal and are ready to book today. The summers will probably fill up fast so don't wait to long to book also. PM me if you have any other questions. I have used this site many times for vacations and have gotten u great deals.

Lake Winnepesaukee in NH is very doable for under 2-3k or Lake Sebago in Maine.
Both are roughly 2-3 hours from Boston depending on route, traffic. How much time will be spent boating on the water? hiking? great hiking in NH, not far from Conway.
