Folks, I have ‘23 M3C in Daytona Beach Blue with Full Frontal PPF and whole body ceramic coating. Recently I encountered a significantly large dead bug with yellow residue. I think it must have stayed on for about 4-5 days before I tried cleaning it. I’m have tried everything but this yellow stain is not coming off. I’m in NW Houston.

Methods used:
- Soap and Water
- Alcohol Rub
- Warm water rub
- Grease Off Paste

Any ideas?

I’d try ScratchX. Very lightly applied.

Might have deeply stained the PPF.

If nothing works, back to the professional detailer.

Beautiful color, btw.

That looks etched into the PPF. I've had good results with Simple Green to remove bug splatter. but nothing that etched.

I use PPG SX330, it's what paint shops use before they start sanding the car. It's safe on PPF though. It's a bit expensive, but I use it for so many things (ever get tar in jeans? It'll take it out) that I don't mind buying some once a year.

https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/onechoice/paint---body-repair/paint-prep/paint---acetone---pre-paint-cleaners/ec9e654dcaa4/ppg-refinish-onechoice-wax-grease-remover/ppga/sx330qt

If that doesn't work then a light buffing compound might do the trick.

Before using either of these though, I'd call a PPF installer and get their take.

I use P&S Bug Off. I used this on the front of our minivan after a trip through the Carolina mountains. The front was blasted by bugs. I sprayed this, let it dwell, then sprayed Koch Chemie foam, and then power washed it off. The bugs literally melted away.

I dealt with this on my old PPF. Certain PPF's just stain easier than others, and if it was on the car for a few days, it likely etched into the ppf. It is very difficult to polish PPF correctly and not ruin the self healing properties, burn through the ppf, or haze it in general.

When this happened to me, i tried a handful of different products and what worked best was Gyeon PPF renew. I applied it by hand, but eventually had to use a polisher on low speed. It got 90% of it out.

Thank you for the feedback and suggestions. It might be that the ceramic coating is stained, and polishing it gently may remove that coating itself. Will tryout a couple of different ways to remove this based on your recommendations.

Thank you once again.

Why aren’t you going to the shop that installed the PPF and ceramic? Let the pros handle the issue.

I’m on their schedule. Installer’s recommendation is to polish the spot hoping to remove it, and the re-ceramic coat it. I’ve heard all sorts of things about polishing a PPF, some not so good. It’s a Suntek Ultra PPF film.

Thanks for the suggestion. Didn’t work after letting it rest for about 10 minutes.
