I think the 5 sec penalty was fair if we look at previous similar situations since the "who's in front at the apex rule" is in place.

However, rumors are that RB has been in touch with the stewards before the race about this kind of situations, because in the F2 race prior to the F1 race no penlty's where given for similar situations. So they wanted to know if it would be the same in the F1 race.

Piastri took MAX with him on the outside by going extremely wide and pushed MAX off track ..

At Miami MAX won't back off (!) You can bet on that ..
At least if he gets the chance , because at Miami McLaren has a huge advantage in the slow corners .

MAX got a 5 sec. penalty because he wanted to avoid a collision.

2. They were allowed to cut this corner - everyone was. No one was allowed to cut it while over taking.

Lewis continues to live rent free, because you know he is better than Max. You just can't help talking about him.

What would Max have done if there was a huge gravel pit, or a wall there? Not a shot in the world he would have tried to go around Piastri on the outside. Max had zero intention of making that corner.

He avoided the accident, great, but give back the place that you stole, and re-take it on track.

And yes . MAX avoided the accident .
Why should MAX give the place back . To smoke his tyres in the dirty air behind Piastri ?

RedBull made the right decision to force the stewards to make the decision. Giving the place back would have obviously given up the place, whereas if they were to have been able to play their cards better, they could have had Max more than 5 seconds ahead and the penalty would have meant nothing. Max has done that before. "Send them my regards". But Piastri is too fast, it obviously didn't work.

The penalty was appropriate. Piastri was very clearly ahead. Max only came alongside because he divebombed on the outside. Something he wouldn't have done if there were a gravel pit or wall there, he would have needed to yield the place to Piastri or risk a crash. But he didn't, he overtook by running off the track, deserving of a penalty.

Lawson received a 10 second penalty for a similar problem. He went too hard into turn 1 and couldn't keep it on track for turn 2, so he got a 10 second penalty despite being clearly ahead at turn 1.

Dirty tricks getting cleaned up. I like it.

Lando did exactly the same in 2024 . Lando was going too wide and pushed MAX off track.
Lando got the penalty for : "Forcing another car off track" (!)

Yeah . Dirty tricks getting cleaned up but it just depends who the marshals are .
The F1 marshals/stewards are just volunteers, actually idiots . And usually they really s@ck.
Most of them don't even know what the track and race regulations are ...
