This is Ford's Halo car in Mustang guise. It has to one up the 760 HP GT500 with the same motor, hence the 815 HP. Probably has something to do with Hellcats getting 807 HP as well. No car needs a ton of horsepower, this isn't a car that anyone actually needs either, this is a halo car that people simply want and Ford knows that and got the huge HP number.
Ideally when the track warms up and Ford can get a few days under it's belt, we'll see a low 6:5X or even a 6:4X time because I honestly believe this car is capable of it, it should be faster than the GT3RS.

Normally, I hate on Mustangs pretty heavy because Ford is just not serious about making them serious competitors, kind of living somewhere where they don't have the HP of a Mopar and they can't turn or brake like a Chevrolet. But that specific Boss was none of those things. They kick ass pretty well at autoX because of that watts-link and are not the terrible turning car you'd think they are.

Never seen a Ford Boss 302 with a factory installed Watts link. Had a race prep 2012 5.0 for 11 years. Aftermarket, yes available. It did have the Torsen diffy.

By the same token you have no proof for your statement.

Boss 302 pulls 0.9 g on a skidpad on garbage P Zeros. E92 pulls 0.96 with Sport Cup tires on. Boss 302 Laguna Seca pulls .96 g on the same garbage P Zeros.

Independent rear suspension makes the e92 a little less of a handful, but it doesn't really handle any better.

Maybe what I was seeing was aftermarket, because we were checking out the underside at the races.

So I may be wrong about that from the factory. But again, overall, it was a very competent car, not "held back".

None of them. I actually have quite an affinity for Mustangs, but I absolutely realize they are quite the blunt instrument compared to a BMW. It is what it is. I also don't think that outright speed is everything, otherwise I wouldn't have bought a Lotus. To each their own.

LOL There are no straights at Laguna. In a powerful car/bike, it takes commitment to stay in it at Turn 1 (the closest thing to a straight at the track). If your vehicle is really under-powered, Turn 1 can feel like a straight but that doesn't apply to either of those 2 cars.

As I said in another reply, Laguna doesn't have any straights. But let's assume we're talking about a track that did.

Abbreviating in the future but we're comparing the E92 M3 and the Mustang Boss 302

Power: m3 = 414 Boss = 444
Weight: m3 = 3450 Boss = 3621
P:W m3 = 8.3:1 Boss = 8.15:1 (slightly better)

0-60 m3 = 4.3 Boss = 4.0 (-0.3)
1/4 m3 = 12.4 Boss = 12.3 (-0.1)

The above shows that from a dig, the Boss has a 0.3 sec edge to 60 but only 0.1 sec edge over the quarter mile. This shows that once both cars are rolling at slow corner speeds, the Boss accelerates more slowly than the Bimmer.

In case you want to watch the lap, here's the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxEhnugwzCc

In case you don't feel like watching your wrongness and you like to assume the Boss eeked out a win by narrow margins, I'm attaching the results in a screenshot.

And you might notice the Audi R8 got beaten too. The article specifies that the R8 was a 2010. The quarter mile time for the R8 is 11.8 which is a half second better than the Boss. So the Boss 302 beat the R8 which out drags it by a half second.

BT Dubs, the Boss 302 is not the fastest Boss. There's actually a Laguna Spec edition which may the one with watts links. That version broke under 1:40 per the article that covered this whole comparison. https://www.motortrend.com/legacy/11...boss-302-test/

Not to take anything away from the Mustang because its a beast but at north of $300K USD all I'm going to say is a manual Porsche just beat it's time for less money and frankly a more sorted car given it's a production model. https://www.autocar.co.nz/porsche-91...erful%20engine.

Also a great lap but I would bet you for every 1 lap Ford did with the GTD, Porsche did 50 or more laps with the GT3 honing it and making sure it got that time which was also somewhat modified given they removed the passenger seat and who knows what else. On top of that, the GTD is a massive car at what is reported, 4340 lbs or about 1300+ lbs more than the GT3. I'd say given the sheer size, it's mighty impressive.
