A brilliant lap from max but mistakes from the McLarens I think left that door open.

It’s also possible he did let up a bit as he had been up nearly three tenths after sector 2. Anyway what a fun quali.

It looks like there was a graphic that said he was quickest in high speed corners and straights? But 18th in the medium speeds so that could set up well for him to have good race pace.

Max just astonishes in ways no one has but him since Schumacher left the sport. He is the best since as well by large margin. No one else could have put that RB21 anywhere close to pole.

Max def had more in hand on that lap as he left plenty of time in S3.

That was unexpected. Good lap from Verstappen, but both the McLarens didn't have a clean last try, just like Hamilton.

Max didn’t push in sector 3 or he’d have been even faster. This is what separates Max. Even when his car isn’t great he gets more out of it than those lesser drivers (Nor, Ham, Pia) despite them having faster cars. This regulation cycle is more about having a decent car and the driver maximizing it than ever before.

I think that is just where Ferrari pace was. Only .026 between two drivers. The car simply doesn't have consistent speed.

Charles on the other hand said it was his worst quali performance of the year.

On the other hand ..

Let's not forget the McLaren tire cooling advantage in the race .
That's why rain would help MAX a lot .
But I only see rain showers in the morning at Silverstone ..

rain 'might' help. cause Max running very low rear downforce car, usually rain setup would need high downforce, unless Max doesn't need rear downforce, then he'd be even quicker in the rain with just the ground effect.

should we find out?
