Globally is it warming, locally it is climate change. Never had this much consistent rain in August in northeast KS - lawn looks like its April & mowing 2x/week whereas usually quite dry. Flip side, the KS aquifer is severely depleted so maybe this will help but disturbing that normal weather patterns are very disrupted now.

This is one of the main reasons I live in Chicago. The summers here are fabulous. And to me they make the winters worth it. Upper 70s today in Chicago. Having moved here from Texas (which I love!) I watch Texas temperatures and since my sister lives in Phoenix I watch their temps, too. Well over 100 in most of Texas today and even right this minute at 9:00 at night still above 100, with highs over 100 forecast for the next 10 days. Phoenix is the same, just add a few extra degrees. During July the low, overnight temperatures in Phoenix exceeded Chicago’s daytime highs virtually every day. One of my favorite things about Chicago is that as the month of August moves along you can watch the temperature start to decline day by day. In Texas and Arizona that doesn’t happen until the beginning of October.

The Summers may be mild there for sure. However... There is no way I could live with shoveling snow and ice each and vevery winter.
one can "beat the heat" by refraining from outdoor Activities. But you can at least get out and travel if needed. 4 - 6ft of snow forces you to stay put.

Just what I want to do all summer. Stay in the house because it’s too damn hot to be outside. Chicago doesn’t get 4 - 6 feet of snow at one time. The city of Chicago has almost 300 snow plows that start plowing the streets as soon as the snow starts falling. Being from the south, my 340i M Sport is RWD. I have a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires and I can get anywhere I want to go with no problems.

In the heat you can only take off so much. You can dress for the winter. I live across the street, literally, from an L station, so I don’t have to drive anytime I don’t want to. I take the train all the time.

The difference in outdoor activity in Texas and Chicago in the summertime is almost indescribable. Everyone is outside here all summer long and there are a dozen festivals throughout Chicagoland every single weekend.

Today we are celebrating the National Acadian Day. Remembering the ethnic cleansing and deportation of the Acadian people by the British between 1755 and 1764. We are rotating our staff so they can participate in the various events.

Two days ago, 105F and yesterday 106F. It's supposed to start backing off the heat but today is wildfire smoke -- don't worry Canada, this is homegrown Oregon wildfire smoke. I'm not sure if the smoke blanket will help or hurt with the heat -- today is supposed to be the last day of triple digit heat.

Shortly after I moved to Chicago and then again recently I checked the NOAA website to see how many times it has been 100 or higher here. Since 1870 it has been 100 or more. A total of 65 days! Almost 165 years!

Raining pretty heavily again. Lately it has been 1 or 2 nice days and then another dumping of rain. Definitely the wettest summer I can remember (my memory sucks though).

Again with the "rain" comments

Overcast and 69 currently, with a slight breeze out of the west.

According to the weather forecast here there’s a 40% chance of rain for this Sunday and 50% chance for this Monday.

I’ll let you know if this actually happens or not.

Wow! I've never read of this; thank you for the history lesson, LJ. I'm a big fan of Louisiana Cajun (Acadian) music. At the risk of crossing threads, here's the wonderful Emmy Lou Harris singing Evangeline -- in English.

I didn't ride this morning because it was too chilly. And yet next week we're supposed to have 4 or 5 days in the upper 90's. Crazy weather, although I've seen days in September that were over 100F before.

Yesterday's high temperature here was a refreshing 73F, with lots of clouds and occasional mist. Not complaining for mid-August.....

Well, never mind about that "last day" business. The forecast is for yet another day of 100ish temps, to be followed by a couple of days of 90s and then back to 80s. Please.

Today the forecast is 100°F, then a few days in the 90s. Now Sunday has a 60% chance for rain and Monday has a 80% chance.

We had rain the last two days and temperatures in the 70s. Just saw on the news last night the highest temperature in Chicago this summer has been 93 degrees on one day at the end of July. Right now 93 is forecast again for Sunday and maybe 94 on Tuesday. My sister in Phoenix did not find this amusing.
