Brodozers are EVERYWHERE (even in downtown Atlanta). The obsession with masculinity, guns, the TV we watch, we have endorsements in govt, private corporations are taking on more govt roles, nobody likes experts, people call anyone they dont like "soy boys," etc.

Man, its weird how much that movie impacted people.

I never really did hard drugs but it was a freaky movie but didnt really freak me out.

I will admit there was a period event horizon freaked me out but on rewatch it didnt hold up.

Eraserhead was an early favorite - still the best first person depiction of schizophrenia I've seen.

And the horsehead-eel scene from Tin Drum.

When you want to shock others, Polyester or anything else from John Waters (but he's one of my favorites, I must confess; Multiple Maniacs is even worse). I'm w/ John Waters that Forest Gump would be truly excruciating to get thru all at once.

I found Faces of Death to be kind of lame, but found (find?) it quite disturbing that there was a developing 'snuff film' market, now a legit marketing niche which is even worse; very disturbing that there is a market for stuff like SAW, Hostel, etc. even into sequels and spinoffs. Plotless sadistic gore.

I think for me it was age. For some reason I became a cynical asshole who isnt able to suspend disbelief and it broke scary movies for me.

Audition was a Japanese film by Takashi Miike. You guys should watch it, I think I found the movie on Youtube but I don't know if it still exists.

CreepShow. One of the few movies I have ever left. When the roaches invaded, I was gone. I'm waiting in the lobby, and the paisley pattern in the carpet freaked me even further.

THIS was a really good movie. It was my introduction to a Japanese movie director named Takashi Miike. He makes some seriously twisted movies. He also makes really good samurai flicks. I recently recommended a movie on another thread called "13 Assassins".

If you want to watch some troubling movies check out some of his other work including "Ichi the Killer" and "Gozu".

1972 Tales from the Crypt.
I can't remember if it was before I went with parents to see Deliverance of after, but another movie was the Tales from the Crypt movie (which was probably pretty tame compared to most films) but the skeleton on the motorcycle scene freaked me out.

Back in the days of this movie you had still VCR tapes and everybody was making copies of rented movies. I got a copy of this movie from a friend. It was a black anonymous VHS tape without any sticker on it. Right after the movie, which was truly terrying to watch because i didn't know what kind of movie it was, my wife an I looked at each other and I said if the phone now rings I will immediatly run outside.

Thank God it didn't

But Martyrs (the original french version) gave me real nightmares.
