Hi all - with my '26 M3 on order, I am already thinking ahead on getting the paint protected with PPF and ceramic coating.

One of the things that all shops around me offer is called the 'wheels off' ceramic coating package where they coat the entire wheel face, barrels, etc. as well as the brake calipers. This service is about $5-600 depending on the shop.

Anyone in here have this done? Is it worth it? I know these cars are notorious for brake dust, but not sure if this is really worth it...

Yes, kind-a.
I do "wheels off" ceramic coating every time I switch between winter and summer tire sets. Old wheels come off the car, get washed, and ceramic Coated (if first time doing it), or just cleaned and ceramic Spray coating (for subsequent rounds).

The wheels ARE easier to clean after they had been ceramic coating, but it's not a "game changer" by any stretch of imagination.

Coating brand new wheels is the easiest job in the world. Maybe 5 mintues per wheel, 30 minutes in total, including removal/re-install. On a new car, the service should cost ~$100. $5-600 quote must assume removing 10+ years of grime from old wheels and thoroughly cleaning them, before getting to the coasting part of the project. Otherwise, that price is a rip-off!

Brake dust is not a big deal either.
It will be easier to wash off coated wheels, but it will still occumulate.

Appreciate the insight! Sounds like this is something I should just do myself as soon as I get the car while everything is clean.

I’d rather put that $5-600 towards some other mods!

Don’t know about anyone else, but I did a wheels off cleaning of the front end on my F87 M2C in the spring time after changing to ceramic pads in the winter.

Used some Griot’s Ceramic 3-in-1 spray on the barrels and and their Ceramic All-in-One polish for some minor imperfections and coat the faces and between the spokes …

The result is they seem to attract a lot more dust now post-coating, vs the transition period where I had the new pads but no coating.

I’m not sure if it’s coincidence or something else (especially since the dust is cinnamon like the oem pads rather than the ceramic brakes which have dark dust)

The wheels *are* easier to clean / the dust comes off by just spraying with water … but hindsight 20/20 with the way I drive my car, I’d personally rather have less dust attraction so they look cleaner for longer, rather than more dust attraction that’s easy to spray off.

I do this with all my cars when the rims are new and then yearly. The brake dust just rinses off.

I used Gyeon Rim.

When you receive your vehicle take the rim off wash it and feel the inside barrel. Then coat it and feel again once dry. You'll become a believer.

The cost depends on the type of coating. More premier coatings will be $500 or more.
Def worth it in my opinion. Makes cleaning the wheels a breeze

Thanks for all the feedback! I think i’m going to pass on having it done at the shop and do it myself as soon as I get the car.

It may not turn out as good, but it will be something!

I had it done while doing PPF and ceramic coat. $300 for the wheels off coating and calipers. Just did my first wash and I was impressed with how much rinsed off, but the wheels still needed to be cleaned afterward as there was still a light film on them.

Not sure I would pay for it again but I won’t know until living with it a while longer.
