Going off the other ridiculous thread where everyone gave absurd answers that pretty much equated to "I'll drive a Ferrari for the rest of my life and hope it stays reliable for 40 years, maintenance doesn't kill me and I'll carry my 2x4s in the seat next to me"; I'd like to hear everyone's opinion on a more realistic scenario. You have $70K to spend on a new car given the following;

1. It must be brand new.
2. This cost must include maintenance for the car and insurance costs for 5 years.
3. You will use this car for everything including going to get the groceries and your 2 kids to school which you may soon have.
4. Your wife and immediate household family members have no other cars and this will be your sole car to use.
5. You have to drive 30 miles to work each way so keep MPG's somewhat in mind too and remember the mileage will add up (an e92 M3 with over 100K miles after a few years may not be too reliable).

My choice would more than likely be a base equipped Lexus ISF / new GS or maybe an Infiniti M37S. I'd like to hear people's opinions on this situation and not if you have infinite amounts of money and can have whatever car u want and u say do something like put 200K miles on a Veyron over 20 years. ;)

Remember - this car will be kept for 5-10 years.

Both are certainly solid choices just consider I said 70K with maintenance and insurance so you are both getting very base models of both cars.

In addition the CTS-V with the ZR1 motor will cost quite a bit in gas assuming you drive 100K miles over those 5 years.

The M3 will be questionably reliable at that high of a mileage.

A bit off topic: OP, are the mods and numbers in your sig for a 335i and or N54 car? Did I miss something? I thought the fastest N54 was only in the low 11's....

Great choice with the Acura!

haha, that sir is a troll joke that i've had going here for a while... This is where the N54 community would have been by now had the engine not been designed with Direct Injection and the price of the vehicle had been considerably lower.

We are very, very close to the 10's though...

Oh, I see :D

I agree that direct injection is worthless. Hopefully shiv or HPF gets one of their projects off the ground soon. Either one would provide a nice springboard into the next generation of mods for this car.

if your racking up miles diesels are more reliable than gas.

for a sedan you can get the 335d or wait for the m550d and for suv the x5d.

diesel you get the mileage, performance, and reliability win-win :happyanim:

And you will be able to insure it for the 5 years for the other $1800? You are creeping very close to that 70K if not going over. Nice car though; I thought about one at one point.

I should have stipulated US; this makes a big difference with prices around the world.

Do you think one will be reliable north of 100K miles? Direct injected, supercharged VW made vehicle?

Is this the hemi one? If so you are surely not thinking about fuel efficiency.
