The green dot is to signify which helmet has the two-way communications installed in it.

I haven't seen it on any defender helmets, did they stick with that rule that only offense needs direct coaching?

I've seen some MLB's with them - only one on the field at a time, but it can change each play.

Defenders are not allowed the have 2 way communication. This is the big debate going in the NFL right now. Since the Pats SPY games. The coaches dont want to have to signal a defense in they would rather call it in so they cant be seen.

Are you certain? Has it been this way all season? I thought sure I'd seen one or two earlier this year.:confused2

the green dots are helmets with 2 way communication, there is only allowed to be one green dot on the field per team at once..... and yes the defense is allowed to have a player with a green dot on his helmet....

So what happens on defense if player X with the dot gets injured? Would other players also have a "dot" helmet they could use?

Thank you all for answering this. It has been on my mind since I saw them. I thought I saw one in a college game?

since every helmet is player specific, if your player with the dot gets hurt, then you have no more players with dots available on the defense....

every QB has a dot, starting, back up and third string, since they never play at the same time

What's the penalty for this? Unsportsmanlike conduct, 15 yards?
