Kind of bummed to hear the news that the generational toy store will soon be liquidating and closing doors for good. I grew up going to this store and having an 8-year old son, I have been revisiting the store often the last several years.
Too bad that future generations will not be able to have the thrill of going to a big toy store with so much fun.

sad, it i can’t say i’m surprised, they tend to be in very high rent areas and very large spaces.
Walmart, Target, and Amazon have to be killing them. Add game stop to that list too. Unfortunately toys r us doesn’t do or sell anything that is unique.

I'm shocked. Really sad they're going under.
For those that say they have $hit prices, you don't know how to shop there. They will match Amazon's prices. I know. I've done it there. Also, they had 10% off on Thursdays for those who have their house credit card. The 10% even applied to sales prices. And then if you're a rewards member, you get cash back in the form of coupons which you could apply to your purchase.
I found Toys R Us had stuff none of the other usual suspects like Target and Walmart would stock. Plus Toys R Us was great for things we would get for my daughter from birth to now being a toddler. Plus the customer service had always been extremely good.

Really sad to hear this. I have a 3.5 year old and she loves playing in the store. Walmart is so damn ghetto and doesn’t have nearly the selection.
Does this mean babies r us is out too? Sad!

Yes this sucks. They match any online prices and that's not enough to make money. You can't compete with Amazon when you still have to pay rent and pay more for employees.

I was just in Toys R Us near me about a month ago. It had been awhile since I frequented the store. I must say I was impressed with selection and prices. My wife and I found lots of stuff for our 7 month old. Way more then the big box usual suspects stores.
Wifey was really bummed they are closing. I am kinda also. Toys R Us is an iconic store.

I feel bad for the employees losing their job. But Toys R Us undercut and forced out of business all the mom and pop toy stores. They were borderline unethical. Just desserts I say.

Two different sets of feelings.
One, my three and a half year old loves tearing around Toys R Us and looking at everything. I remember it too, and FAO Schwarz and Hamleys. Guess I've got to take him to NYC or London to enjoy that feeling now.
Second, we were in Toys R Us about a year ago and my kid was looping back to look at some toys he'd already seen and I was looking forward and not really paying enough attention to him. The next thing I knew he was crying super loud and the whole front of the built in trash can had fallen on his ankle. I'm sure he either bumped it or tried to grab it, but it was cheap particle board with screwed in hardware that had clearly broken long ago. It broke the skin, but he was otherwise unhurt, just scared about what had happened. I told management about the broken cover, but didn't mention my kid's injury. We went back in there multiple times afterwards and it was always still just propped up, waiting to fall on the next kid. It would have taken five minutes to reattach the hardware, or five seconds to just shit can the cover, leaving the trash can exposed. But they did nothing.

I remember having exact change to buy my SNES. Mom was adamant that she wouldn't give me 1 cent for the damn thing. It got to the point where I was like $4 short and scraped change from all over the place. It then took a lot of nagging to get her to drive me there and get it, eventually she cracked as it was clear I would not shut up about it. I paid with a big handful of change, mostly pennies, and had I miscalculated the sales tax by 1 cent I wouldn't have got it.

I went to toy r us recently for the first time in proabably over 15 years ..im 26 and realized toys are super expensive. Fuckin legos are the most expensive thing I have seen. Model lego helicopter 80+ dollars WTF. (not toys r us fault) I really wanted a train set and RC car, but alas I couldn't fork over the bills. (yet ill drop 3k+ on an exhaust lol).
The toy r us in princeton was rundown, dirty, and looked nothing like my childhood. Just looked like walmarts toy section and probably why they are getting shutdow.
I wonder what will happen to babies r us
Once the out of business sale begins. Imma be in there pushing and fighting little children for toys. Can't wait

I remember as a kid the stores were always busy by me packed with people. If you wanted a game console or games that was the place to be.
Last month I went in there to buy some toys for my friends kid and it was a ghost town. Such a shame they never evolved to compete with the likes of amazon or walmart.
