The one I got a few minutes ago was one of the worst. My partner answered the first time they called and immediately hung up. They called again 3 minutes later. Same business number. It told me (on my work phone) that the IRS has filed a lawsuit against me for ignoring them the past year. I called the provided number. An indian woman who was barely understandable kept asking me for my financial information. I asked her how she lives with herself, and she hung up.

This is worse than "Anna" asking if I still want an extended warranty on my 100k mile BMW. She/they have called me 10 or 12 times, spoofying a local number most of the time. Though Anna is now Stacy, according to her last call. Same robo voice, different name.

Rant over.....

Ahh, but you'd be surprised at the take rate on those calls. I am. I'm an accountant, and every year during tax season, they ramp these calls up, and I'll get at least 5-10 clients calling me, concerned that they owe.

And I'm always telling them not to worry, it is a fraud, and for the ones that are really paranoid, I'll log into their account with the tax authorities to check their balance and confirm to them there is no balance owing per CRA either.

But I do wish these guys could be found and thrown in jail for a very long time. They are so annoying. Next time, you could tell your partner she / he could just play with them...give them fake info and hem /haw about whether they should give this info before relenting, and just waste their time - if they've got no other urgent stuff going on. See how long it takes them to catch on.

Also, it would be great if someone with a robocaller would just robocall that number they give you all day long, every minute to tie up their lines.

I get 3 or 4 per day that either say they are the IRS, want to help me with student loans that I do not have or want to lower the interest rates on my credit cards. I fuck with them every time they call which is why they probably call so often.

The bitchy coworker mentioned in another thread get these calls daily on her cell. She steps out of the office and gets in a shouting match with them, actually screams at the top of her lungs at them. Some of the craziest shit I've witnessed at work. I'll never understand why she doesn't just hang up. Some people can't pass up an opportunity to make an ass of themselves.

easier said than done; you'd need to find the true number. The numbers they are using are just local spoofed ANIs. They dont actually own them.

If you do find their real number; PM me. I own and operate several call centers around the country and a couple nearshore; would be more than happy to place their number in a list that just recycles and never stops calling.

One I just learned about, the "Can you hear me now?"

"Yes" is the INCORRECT answer, because they falsely patch that to them asking you a question to obtain a bunch of new services, and they have you on tape agreeing to the terms.

The correct answer to any question asked by any of these dirt bags is "Suck my d*ck, a**hole!"

I'm fortunate because I have a cell number from when I lived in NH 7 years ago. All the people from there that I keep in contact with still are saved to my phone so their names show up. Anyone else from a 603 number who calls is a dead give-away. I let it go to voicemail just to be sure. 99.999% of the time no voicemail is left and I simply block the number.

The unknown callers with the first 6 digits...I pick up and don't say a word. More often than not, it hangs up in 5 seconds without starting. Almost like it keys off the "hello"

Folks, don't pick up the calls if you can avoid it. Sure as heck don't call them back if they leave a message or something, because if you do you just guaranteed you're going to be harassed constantly. I want to give in the temptation every time to call back and put them through the ringer for awhile and waste their time, but hold off because I know if I call back my number is going to be sold to, well....everybody.

^^^^This, for sure. They resell listings of known 'good/live' numbers for a profit; some of them, all they are is a screener to try to tell which are real people and which are bogus #s. Of course, for some of you, the recreational fun of the hunt may make up for giving them some fractional profit.
