Who hates their job? I do!

One of my patients that I saw this morning and looked good, just coded (cardiac arrest) and died. This sucks ass. Talked to him a few times before. He looked like a nice guy.

One minute you see somebody alive and well, and next they're dead.

I want to quit!

Well, if you're in the health care industry, doesn't death come with the territory?

i like my job...sometimes.

i like my job. i see your in the health profession as well.

I hatet my job to. My boss was 74 and a real nazi. Had been there for 12 years and was Sales and Marketing Manager.
I got so tired of his silly and hopeless ways that i one day made my own business with the other sales manager and some people from the stock. took the old mans costomers with me. Nailed his ash. Show must go on. Business is not for old school when you wanna grow these days.

Rule one in our business: Work have to be fun. If you feel like not working - stay home. If you travel for business. Take your family with you.
We make business for fun.

Well - i think a lot of people can do that. I learned from the old man and turned it against him.

Everyone you know, someday, will die. Every single one of your patients, everybody, you, me, everyone.

Don't take it personally.

VFib strikes suddenly, often without notice, as I'm sure you know well.

You do what you can, and move on.

I love my job - unfortunately it's in the IT business. There's been no talk of layoffs and I work for a bank so there's federal law protecting my job a bit but still - always a little worried :P

I wouldn't go as far as saying you hate your job over what happened....it's something that's expected of for your position. Key is (as mentioned above) not to take what happens too personal or you will go bonkers.

You've gone so far through the schooling to get where you are now. You don't want to give all that up, do you?


Going back to your question, I am content with my job.

Every Friday's throughout the summer we have beer cart Friday's, and one a month throughout the winter months.

But agree with the op as well, if you have a job in the health field you would see that at least once a week right?....if not more...
I say in general....do something that makes you happy if it isn't why stay at a job you are unhappy with for the rest of your life?
Maybe you need a career change, nothing wrong with that.....

Why did he come in the first place? Not feeling well? You send him home, then he died?

Steel, how long on the job?

I'm not in the HC, but I'm LE. Have seen, handled and smelled enough death to last a life time and I'm nowhere near retirement. Good thing is, once you've done it a while, all the folks start blending together. The kids are the only one's that wake you up at night and leave you wondering why.

Good luck with it. You're not alone in those feelings.

Oh just can't wait to what I have to look forward to...I'm not gonna want college to end...

sorry to hear about that steeltorque. that's one of the reasons why i chose architorture over the medical field even though i wont be making as much.

good luck though. i heard you get used to it in time. but for me i refuse to see sick people and blood. just walking in the hospital or a medical facility gives me a strange feeling.
