Now that the topic has moved to amps:

I've had a "spare" JBL D123 12-inch speaker sitting around for over 20-years. I'd often read from Harvey Gerst (father of the "F" series JBLs for Fender) about what a wonderful guitar speaker it was so I picked up a Fender Deluxe 112 locally from Craig's List for a C-note and one day when my daughter's boyfriend (an accomplished classical bass player, guitar player, and recording artist) was visiting, I installed the JBL in the Fender. After a few minutes of playing his guitar through it, the transplant was confirmed as an excellent result! Cheap thrills!

Later, I found, purchased, and had my daughter pick up in NJ another perfect old D123 for them to use in their own gear. Maybe we'll hear it on their next album.
:cool!:

I have its distant relative, a couple of Champion 110s (I got two because I used to have a floorboard that fed into both of them).:party0030:

...now I just use the spare one as a karaoke speaker. :D

No need to feel inadequate at all. I'll snap a pic of my current rig in a little bit to make you feel better.
Can't be as basic as mine, I don't even dare to call it a 'rig', just an axe+amp. :D

Gear doesn't make the player! Just like the at the track, the car and mods don't make the driver... only seat time will do that :)

Keep playing, practicing, jamming - nice gear is nice to have but the returns are strongly diminishing and a good player will rip the same on a Squire or a Suhr

We covered a little bit of amps, so how about strings?

I like to experiment but always seem to gravitate back to DR Pure Blues and GHS Nickel Rockers 10's or 11's.

Tried just about every string over the years and always end up back at EB Super Slinky or Slinky for E tuning variations and Skinny Top Heavy Bottoms for any D tuning variations. Used to use the DR Blacks in 11 during my Children of Bodom / Neoclassical phase.

While we’re at it, the other MASSIVE change I made this passed year was switching from the regular Jazz III shape to the Jazz III XL and Flows. Massive improvement given my current stage of playing where my hands are just lazier than they used to be. Only ~30 but my picking hand cramps easier now and just isn’t as articulate as it used to be.

I've always been a D'addario guy.

Lmao - looks like we were into the same stuff. I had a ton of influence from Laiho.

.010-.052 were my favorite D standard/Drop C combo.

RIP Alexi - guy was a guitar legend in his prime. I mean shoot, the solo from Kissing the Shadows is straight up nightmare material.

I play mainly prog now and am pretty low gain favoring split coil tones but I do I keep one guitar in Drop C all the time for when I'm feeling like playing thru some KSE or Periphery.

I've always been a big fan of all the Finns. Laiho and Jari were my favorites.

Winter Madness + Kissing The Shadows =

I knew you were being modest, looks pretty sweet, love that…what do you call that, 2-1-2 pickup(haha, I dunno the jargon) setup. Did you remove the vibrato bar?

Another Ibanez disciple :party0030:

Btw, what's w the tag still attached? It's not a baseball cap and it's not the 80s anymore lol.

No idea, just a humbucker in the neck and bridge with a single coil in the middle (I never use middle).

I took those photos when I first got that guitar delivered - you can see the stickers still on the pickups. I was looking for a purple RG550 for a while. The tags are off and the trem bar is attached!

For the money, Ibanez has by far become my favorite.

Dude fkn love the genny RG550, bad ass and iconic. Katanas are nothing to sneeze about - In terms of a live amp, for the price, it's unmatched.

Config is known as HSH (humbucker, single, humbucker) - other configs involving humbuckers and singles (not including P90s) would be HH, SSH, or SSS.

Ah, tx. So I got a HH then.

Ya, always thought HSH is pretty cool, that's the most stacked pickup arrangement, right?

Cool, I thought I saw something like stickers but wasn't sure since I assumed it was a recent pic. :D

It's actually called a vibrato bar though, right? Or we can just say whammy bar. :)

Anyway, always thought that the HSH is the most wicked setup.

Yeah HSH is tonally the most versatile, there are a whole ton of different combinations and configurations depending on your selection setup. Even HH can have a lot of combos - for example, I have a HH with a 5-way on my main guitar so my positions are:

1. Bridge Humbucker
2. Split Bridge w/ Neck in Series
3. Both Humbuckers
4. Split Neck
5. Neck Humbucker

If you have a 3-way then you're most likely wired:

1. Bridge Humbucker
2. Both Humbuckers
3. Neck Humbucker

Is HSH 5 way too or more? Ya, my HH is 5 way also, that's what I love about it.
