last night, I went to bed early around 11pm.(early for me anyway)

not long after that, I woke up to the sound of people yelling, car alarms, and even police sirens. I looked at the clock and it was only 2AM. I went out to see what was going on. My first reaction was there was some sort of break-in or accident.

to make it simple, here's what happened

(1) repo tow truck driver showed up at my neighbor's driveway

(2) raised the front wheels of his 2021(2022) 540i xDrive

(3) started dragging the 540i out with the rear wheels still on the ground in order to extricate it from the driveway

(4) my neighbor woke up to the car alarm, ran outside and banged on the repo driver's window and when the driver refused to respond, he broke the driver's side window

(5) the driver got out and they started shouting and hitting each other

(6) cops showed up within 5 minutes after neighbor's daughter called 911

(7) police put the tow truck driver in the police car and drove away

(8) some other dude showed up half an hour later and drove away the tow truck.

(9) the 540i was left alone in the driveway

(10) the most important part: the repo driver was attempting to tow the wrong BMW 540i :mad0260:

We suspect that he was trying to tow another 540i on the next street behind us. That street and our street have different street names, but the house numbers are too similar. For example: my house is 1572 Maple Street and there's another house just behind me... 1572 Willow Street. And yes, there are a lot of BMWs in my subdivision.

Don't these bozo repo driver even bother to check the license plate or VIN number of the car they are towing?

Also.... I had no idea that my neighbor was such a badass... he literally used his bare fist to shatter the tow truck's window glass and there wasn't even a scratch on his fist. I've known him for 4 years and I thought he was just some weak dude who was afraid of his scary wife.

If that happened to my car, best believe I would be going after that tow company for any and all damages due to their gross negligence.

A few years back we had repo guy show up at around the same time, 2am in the morning to take the next door neighbor's vehicle which was parked on the street. The usual chaos ensued with the neighbor in the vehicle while the vehicle was lifted. A person being in the vehicle prevents the repo cause it would be considered kidnapping to drive off. In the meantime a cop shows up with lots of yelling back and forth.

In the mean time I am pissed off cause at this point our whole house is awake and it is a school night. Initially the cop can not get either the neighbor or the repo guy to STFU. At which point I decided that if it continued I was going to go outside and the tell cop to issue them both citations for disturbing the peace. Fortunately, the repo guy dropped the vehicle and drove off empty handle. Soon afterwards the vehicle and neighbor were gone.

For the OP do follow up on the damages that the neighbor gets from the repo company as well as the driver's court case.

Well, it's a dangerous job and it doesn't pay particularly well so it's not going to attract detail oriented people.

Not really the same thing but kind of. I worked in a shipyard many years ago that serviced private yachts and a repossession was made on a Fountain speedboat. Word from the foreman was they always happened to boats that were financed from a certain lender.
