Only a handful had a reasonable/realistic chance of beating Verstappen today.

In the late stage of the race (last 1/3 or 1/4 section), Piastri was regularly matching Verstappen's pace. Norris failed to catch Verstappen. We will never know, but if McLaren would have had the clarity of mind to order Norris to move over around lap 40 or so, Piastri could have chased (with less tire deg from trailing Norris) Verstappen, more successfully than Norris and could have attempted DRS overtakes in the straight during the final laps of the race. Piastri is a better driver than Norris, also mentally. He's future WDC material.

Ah but you must never underestimate the power of the papaya rules. But for that, a lot of things would have happened differently and one of the McLarens would have won the race.

Was en route to Malta so I didnt get to watch but the highlights showed a very controlled race from max from start to finish. Now 4 poles and 4 wins in a row - first time in history at Japan. Very impressive!
