In 1958, that passed for "ultra modern." Jetson's level stuff.

Yuk! 🤣

Having unpacked thousands of televisions, I’m wondering what the packing
materials looked like for the Predicta abortion.

Our 50’s vintage Philco was in a colonial maple cabinet. All of our furniture
was maple.

Finally a marker of "old" that I haven't reached yet. Time to enjoy my "youth" while I can - road trip to Cedar Point?

Only in cheap state-owned campgrounds. But when I was a kid, the house next to us had one. It was the original farmhouse for the farm that became our neighborhood. I don't recall anyone ever using it. I think it was just left over from the early days.

Reminds me of week-long Boy Scout camp where we had latrines and one of the other kids in our troop decided he was going to “hold it” for the week. One day we were out marching and, well, you can probably guess what happened that day.

...when you go through a Taco Bell drive-thru and:

1) you can't read the menu very well
2) you can't understand the words of the employee speaking to you over the speaker and have to ask them to slow down a little bit.
3) They ask you if you placed your order though "the app". I'm old. I don't place orders through apps. I don't even use the touch screen when I go inside. The GD touchscreen was designed by junior G-rangers who skipped class the day they taught intuitive.
4) They finally slow down and you hear them say, do you want sauce with that, and you say no thanks (the tacos are plenty spicy enough for this old guy)
5) They ask you if you want to round up to nearest dollar and you say, no. (I'm retired and I'm not giving my money away unless it's to a charity I know)
6) you don't care that your fellow forum members are absolutely going to scold you for going to Taco Bell and eating that crappy food.

2) You have to ask them to speak English (their accent is so heavy you wonder what country you're in)...

In this case she was speaking perfect English but she was just speaking really fast, the speaker sucks, and my hearing is worse. When I got to the window she gave me a huge smile and an apology for speaking so fast. She could not have been more pleasant.

It is more common imo to not hear those people through the speakers clearly than it is to hear and understand everything they say. I’m always asking them to repeat themselves. I have excellent hearing, btw.

Taco Bell is damn delicious and I'm not that old and I can't understand the employees over the drive up speaker either.

It's the long weekend and your driving to your destination somebody passes you weaving through traffic dangerously and instead of road raging which you might have done some years back. You just continue at your pace knowing you'll get there at the time you expected or planned too.

See too much evening news where industructable it won't happen to me happens and of course traffic is backed up for miles and death or something else happened as an aftermath.

I just wait for a track day for my speed junkie or get my shifter kart out and go the local track. 2 hours in traffic yesterday too go 3 miles because of stupidity.

Last time I was in MA I saw some nutcase weaving in and out of traffic on I-495. Had to be going 100+. At one point he zoomed by me close enough to shake our car. We were in the right lane and he blew across my front and went down the breakdown lane, which raised a cloud of dust and debris. Then all the way across to the left lane at that speed. Pure idiocy.
