Until my son and I went there when he was 11. Thank God I was reminded how magnificent they. So we’ve made a point of visiting them when we can. We’re eastern time zoners so it’s not as accessible for us. But our son, now in his late 20s is a regular in Yosemite, especially during spring and fall climbing seasons, even can claim an El Cap ascent.

Seriously though, what makes the M850i a better grand tourer than the 5er? I’d love an 8GC but it’s too low for me so I traded a 540i recently for the M550i. Love the G30, and it’s even better with the V8.
Glad you can bond with your son. This stuff never caught on with mine. Maybe someday. What's not to like? Sheesh. Impressive yours got up El Cap. Gnarly.

My 550 and M550 were great grand tourers, no complaints. My 2 M5s were absolute beasts out on the roads. Too harsh in town for me. the 8er has killer looks, great performance and smooth as silk all day long driving. I did a detailed review on the 2nd anniversary of my first M850 here with comparisons to my other cars here:

I took it to 50,000 miles and picked up the San Remo.

Thanks. These are doable before retiring. You can get a lot done in a week to 10 days (Well, depending on where you live, I guess)

Such great write up 👍

Having grown up visiting all the national parks west of the Mississippi by road ( and a few trips up into the Canadian Rockies) this definitely brings back some fond memories.

I love to drive, just to drive, no destination in mind. My wife, she drives to go someplace, not for the sheer joy of it.

She prefers to fly… until we got our latest dog. Now we drive everywhere with him. But, we rent an SUV to do it ( her corporate discount makes it a no-brainer). Last year was a Grand Cherokee hybrid for two long trips plus a new X5 xDrive50e for our Florida trip. That was a nice vehicle for road tripping.

This year will be Minnesota to Colorado in June, then back to Florida in December. Next year will be a Rocky Mountains / PNW vineyard trip over a couple of weeks plus a Florida trip in December again.
That's awesome. I prefer road tripping in my own car (for obvious reasons) but I've had plenty of good times flying someplace and then driving all over tarnation for a week or two.

I don't understand people that think cars are JUST transportation. My wife will have a 2 hour meeting and I'll go out and hammer a 90 mile route I have in the hills. It never gets old.

Sounds like you are seeing plenty of road.

That’s another treat - honestly, I’m not a religious person, but Yosemite is an utterly spiritual place for me. Can’t really put it into words, but I feel grateful every time I’m there.

I feel the same. Obviously, so did John Muir.
