![]() Many enthusiasts wonder why so many of us waste money on 500+hp, $85k sedans weighing in at 3,600+-pounds, when we could instead use that money to buy a more pure experience like a Miata or an older Lotus, and have an Accord or an SUV as a "daily" since you can't use all the M's power on the road in most cases anyway. Again, it's all excess...but one person's excess is another person's "not quite enough". We each decide. Hec, that's why so many buy 500+ hp BMWs, and then tune them for more power, and these cars often never see a track. 1,064 hp is not going to be enough for some folks...so the horsepower wars will continue. And no, none if it will make sense. But as an engineering achievement, at this price point, if it's at all reliable, to GM for the ZR1... ![]() |

Agree on the lotus 7/caterham/atom for track. I've been DDing a 250hp (when stock) 964 911 lately. It's enough power for the street TBH. You can absolutely wring it out everywhere. So much fun. Looking forward to seeing if GM makes something enthusiast oriented again.

Sometimes it's just knowing that you have it, even though you may never use it.

F=MA. A 3900 pound car crashing at 160 MPH is going to be much more violent than a 1300 pound car crashing at 160 MPH.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I won't count on it, but it would be interesting if Chevy dealers started marking down to bring the price closer to $150k if there's too much supply and low demand after a good year or two.
I remember several years back when my local dealer was discounting the 2010 ZR1 by $20k+ and they had 3-5 on the lot at the same time. I'm still kicking myself for missing that chance. 6-speed manual and supercharged. The Corvette won't be the same again, it looks like, ever since it converted over to being a European personality. I'm an owner now, so I guess I'm gladly supporting this characteristic. |

In another discussion, someone mentioned that a $5K Fox-body Mustang with $170K in mods would smoke a ZR1. I'm now torn between said Mustang and a ZX-14. Please advise.

I had a '22 Mustang GT Premium with 6MT, and it was a fairly good car aside from the "quality" aspect as far as the plastics in the car, plus that 6MT originates from China (no offense)—the 6MT Tremec in the Dark Horse is of better quality. Last edited by Bald Guy; 06-07-2025 at 11:44 AM.. |

Well, BMW does have that twin-turbo V8 with hybrid or mild hybrid in select models, so that's the closest they have with the brand. The smaller turbo engines are more powerful and more efficient and probably more cost-effective for BMW as well... So I guess it's a no-brainer for their progressive movement. BMW does sell a lot of cars so whatever they are doing is working for the higher volume of their clients, that's for sure!

We can't have it all in life, as we know. Grateful for what we have in front of us, though. The sports car game is getting more costly and limited, though. Electric and hybrid tech may or may not be helping alongside. Last edited by Bald Guy; 06-08-2025 at 12:53 PM.. |
