Thumbs up sign in HomeNews 1341-HP Mercedes-AMG GT XX EV: Direct Shot @ Porsche Taycan

And it's very interesting and intriguing. Huge presence for certain.

Quote:
The production version of this new electric four-door arrives next year, riding on the AMG.EA platform that promises huge performance and ultra-fast charging. It's easiest to think of the GT XX as a successor to the current AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, as this new model is similar in size and features a similarly low-slung fastback silhouette. The rakish GT XX has a Maserati-esque, mouth-shaped grille and a daringly tapered rear end with no rear glass. Mercedes design chief Gorden Wagener says that the six circular taillight units are meant to evoke the quad exhaust tips seen on AMG gas models.
The AMG GT XX's all-wheel-drive powertrain consists of three electric motors, with two in the rear and one in the front. These motors use a power-dense axial-flux design, as opposed to the more typical radial-flux motors found in most EVs. Total output sits at 1341 horsepower, which tops the most powerful Porsche Taycan, the 1019-hp Turbo GT. AMG isn't yet making claims about 60-mph acceleration but does project a top speed of 223 mph!

That's horrible. Like in every way it's tacky and gross.

Kill it with fire.

I hate light up grilles and front light bars etc. so confusing to see one coming at you on the road and tend to be blinding to oncoming traffic.

The individual design elements on this are nice, lighting conflagration aside. But they're trying to do too many different things and the design synthesis doesnt work for me.

Swing and a miss.

Success or not. Only time will tell...

I'm fine with new technology, new designs, and the evolution of the automobile.

Pretty sure the thing in the center console is the flux capacitor that lets you travel into the future at the speed of regular time.

Might as well get used to it; everything will look this way eventually. Also, im not sure there is enough to differentiate between brands anymore when everything uses the same electric motors and has 1000 horsepower. Is depreciation the only thing that separates this and a taycan?

Aside from the other questionable style choices, I will not purchase another MB if it has that awful digital dashboard. Sticking two giant tablets in front of the driver is not design, it is lazy and cheap.

I was thinking some sort of fusion reactor. It also looks like the tail lights are modular and attach using a Lego-like mounting system.

I'm assuming they are focusing on the Chinese market with this. EV market is declining in the West but huge in China. This has all the same design characteristics other German brands have used for the Chinese market. Absolutely terrible looking.

I think its a more productionized use of design features from past concepts ie C111 and Vision One Eleven. I imagine it will be further toned down for production.

I don't hate this, but it's very obviously a concept. It's hard to say what the Taycan competitor that will end up going into production will look like, and I think it's fair to assume that a lot of the more radical features of this design will be removed, "sanded down" or redesigned for ease of manufacturing.

Not really true. EVs are gaining market share in virtually every market. The rate of growth has lessened somewhat, but it's still positive, meaning every year, the share of new cars that are EVs is increasing. Lots of stats and juicy graphs here if you don't want to take my word for it.

I'm not going to go down this (stupid) rabbit hole any more than just say the majority of EV growth in the West was subsidized and those are going away this year and over the next few years. I highly doubt you see sales anywhere near what you have over the last years.

Exactly what I was thinking. I had a Corgi C111 as a kid.
