dscott4305 wroteGood to know and glad your car is fixed! My 2025 M440ix was fixed at BMW Dallas on 6Aug2025. Parts listed on enclosed.
Tie rod parts shipped from BMW NA's New Jersey distribution site to my dealer, BMW Dallas. My dealer had to file a TSARA case with BMW NA in order to get the parts. I was concerned at first the replacement parts would just be the same ones that were causing the problem in the first place; I was told the parts are the recently designed new parts.
Whatever it was, the problem is absolutely fixed. The car now drives the way I feel it should feel to drive day one. Significantly more solid handling and stability.
If you get the newly designed tie rod parts, you should experience the same.
Good luck!

Thanks for this. I believe I have the same problem, and it's been quite the battle to get this tracked down. Car is a 2021 M340i xdrive.
For me my symptom initially noticed was I would get a popping noise from the steering rack when reversing and approaching full lock on the wheel when turning the steering wheel clockwise.
For this issue here in this thread- there is a copy of the SIB which is on the NHTSA's website. So it's public, and nobody can take this down.
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11021817-0001.pdf
I was able to identify that my car is a Thysen Krupp EPS system. The SIB does not mention about the symptoms showing up when reversing, but says it can show up when stationary.
So I went out and started the car, and while stationary, slowly turned the wheel lock to lock, and back. Low and behold it repros. Just never tested it this way before.
It always felt like tie rods to me- despite the dealer never seemingly able to find anything wrong.
Now that I've got a consistent repro, a matching TSB/SIB, and there are updated tie rods now available that fix this issue, I'm very hopeful I'll finally be able to get this issue resolved.
Have an appointment with the dealer in a couple of weeks and will update you guys accordingly.

Update on my end. Dealer agrees my problem is the tie rod SIB.
As others have called out, there is a backlog on getting the new tie rods in. Currently I'm 2-3 weeks out before the parts are in.

Don't know if the part number in the SIB is one unit for inner and outer. I'll know for sure once I get the car back and see the invoice.

VinoG80 wroteI know this is old post but this is the exact creaking sound my G87 makes with low speed turning of the steering wheel. Is it this noise?
Took it to dealer with the SIB in hand and was told they can’t even diagnose because I have KWHAS suspension. Even threatened to flag my car. Won’t even diagnose and fix if I pay out of pocket. I can either revert to stock for them to diagnose or potentially buy new tie rods or steering rack or whatever the solution is and have an Indy shop install because my dealer won’t even work on “modified” cars. I’ve had much more modded Subarus for like 20 years and dealers would still work on them.

Got my car back, and unfortunately the tie rods were not the fix. Next step is probably replacing the steering rack.
I can confirm that the updated part numbers for the SIB is both an inner and outter tie rod.

drwankel wroteYeah I’m almost positive that it’s the steering rack. Sound is coming from drivers side in dash. Unfortunately that’s not in the SIB and my dealer has refused to even diagnose my car unless I take off the KWHAS and put OEM suspension back onGot my car back, and unfortunately the tie rods were not the fix. I’m gonna wait to see what the fix is, maybe try another dealer or potentially swap back to stock for a bit to get fixed.

Is this different than just checking bmwusa vin check for open recalls?
I don't see anything for my car. Can I assume I am not affected?

drwankel wroteHonestly, it doesn't sound like your car has a problem beyond the Ackermann effect. If you're only hearing it when backing near or at full lock, and it feels more like a binding or popping, I don't think you have an actual issue.Got my car back, and unfortunately the tie rods were not the fix. My car is going in Thursday for second attempt at this noise.
I have a knocking / clanking / rattling sound coming from passenger front suspension. Seems to be worse at low speeds especially with load on the wheel (left turns) or going over very uneven / bumpy roads.
I just had a tie rod end replaced on the opposite side as the boot was torn and it was leaking grease. Coincidentially I have zero noise coming from there. So maybe that's' it? We will see. It's very easy to hear.

the sizing of the attachments was ridiculous...apologies. Email me at dscott4305@gmail.com if easier. BTW, I think Colin is senior over Fernando (but, don't hold me to it), so maybe start with him rather than Fernando.

Has anyone experienced other symptoms of failing tie rods besides the usual knocking?
My M2 G87 doesn’t feel tight — there’s a bit of a loose sensation - but what’s worse is that when it’s warm outside, the steering sometimes doesn’t self-center properly, and the assist feels uneven (the wheel turns noticeably lighter to the left than to the right).
